The UPONTOURISM Interdepartmental Study Center is a space for reflection, collaboration and planning addressed to scholars, organizations, operators, and citizens.

It is an interdepartmental structure of University of Piemonte Orientale (UPO) that deals with the definition of strategic objectives in relation to the principles of sustainable development applied to tourism, in the evaluation and enhancement of tourism resources, and in destination planning and management.

The Center is established for the purpose of conducting higher education, research and services in the field of tourism, in which tourism is understood as an economic sector and at the same time a socio-cultural phenomenon of great variety and complexity, with aspects of interest and implications that also concern the health and well-being of the individual.

It is a multidisciplinary reality of theoretical and applied research, discussion and comparison, training, dissemination and consulting that develops and promotes studies and projects co-created with companies, communities and territories, conducted through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates different research methods and sector approaches.

It has administrative headquarters at the Department for Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition (DiSSTE).

The operational headquarters is located at Villa San Remigio in Verbania, on the shores of Lake Maggiore.
